City Initiative (APCC)
launched in association with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was praised by
Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his brief visit to the city on November 13,PM
Modi visited the premises of Serum Institute of india and keenly observed all
the machinery and operations of APCC. Adar Poonawalla is a

Chief
Minister Devendra Fadnavis, former union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar,
Union human resource minister Prakash Jawadekar and governor C Vidyasagar Rao
accompanied PM Modi during his short visit. They were received by Cyrus
Poonawalla, Founder Chairman, Serum Institute of India (SII) along with Adar Poonawalla, chief
executive officer and executive director of SII.
While
discussing the importance of such initiatives, PM Modi told Adar Poonawalla, that
such initiatives resonate with Clean India Mission and should be replicated in
all the cities in India. “He praised the high technology introduced to improve
cleanliness for the first time in India. He believes that such public-private
initiatives are a must to make India one of the cleanest countries in the
world,” said Adar Poonawalla.
APCC,
an initiative to make Pune one of the cleanest cities in the world was launched
on October 2,2014 that happened to be the 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma
Gandhi. Adar Poonawalla has
invested Rs 100 crore in this initiative.
APCC is a one-of-its-kind cleanliness initiative based on the
private and public partnership. APCC has introduced a high-end technology to
clean the city in the form of Glutton vacuum litter picker and the Trilo small
truck. Currently, the Glutton machines are covering roughly 30 km of roads but
in the second they all set to cover all the 1,200 km of roads across the city.
Also, at various areas, APCC has initiated to collect wet waste
and recycle it. It is an initiative that has resolved to deal with the issue of
waste management & cleanliness with a comprehensive approach and meticulous
planning.
While
further elaborating on his conversation with the Prime Minister, Adar Poonawalla said
that along with APCC, he was also impressed by the work accomplished by SII.
“He praised our work in producing the low-cost lifesaving vaccines for
children. He said that more companies should come forward and produce such
vaccines to save lives of poor children from diseases that can be prevented by
vaccines,” Adar Poonawalla said.
APCC
believes that Pune can be the one of the cleanest cities in the world if all
the citizens and corporates join hands together. “When we will be united and
our waste will be segregated at source and completely managed with scientific
processing then only we will be able to address our waste problem, like they
have done in many western countries,” concluded Adar Poonawalla.
